Pennsylvania is at risk of an undercount in the 2020 Census, and this could mean a significant loss of federal funds for healthcare, nutrition assistance, transportation, housing, education, programs for children and parents, and much more. Pennsylvanians can not afford to put these programs needlessly at risk. That’s why every Pennsylvania resident needs to take immediate action to prevent an undercount.
Please contact your state representative and state senator before June 17 to urge them to support a public fund of $12.8 million for the Census to prevent an undercount in Pennsylvania! Click here to find your state legislators. The fund total of $12.8 represents a commitment of $1 per Commonwealth resident.
Here is a suggested script for your call, provided by our coalition partner the Pennsylvania Health Access Network (PHAN): “Hello, my name is ____ and I’m a constituent of Rep./Sen. _____’s. I’m calling to express my concern about an undercount in the 2020 Census and to urge Representative/Senator ___ to support a public fund of $12.8 million to ensure Pennsylvania is prepared for the next Census.
An undercount would mean a substantial reduction in the $39 billion in federal census-directed funds flowing into Pennsylvania, putting critical programs that serve children, seniors, and people with disabilities needlessly at risk of losing federal funds.
Pennsylvania can’t afford to lose those federal funds. Please encourage ___ to support efforts to ensure an accurate count!”
