Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania (LAMPa) will be compiling and distributing a 40 Day Devotional “Reflections Before an Election,” beginning Sept. 27. ELCA Rostered Ministers (pastors and deacons) and seminarians are welcome to submit entries to this devotional, which will be available as a PDF, a daily email, or on LAMPa’s Facebook page.
“We hope to foster a spirit of prayer, peace, and community in the days leading up to this important election,” said the Rev. Erin Jones, LAMPa’s communication and advocacy engagement manager. “We want this devotional to be able to speak across political parties, geography, and all that seeks to divide us, and remind us of what can happen when we place our trust in the movement of the Spirit. This is not about praying for a specific outcome, but rather reminding ourselves of God’s vision for the beloved community and grounding our civic engagement in that vision.”
The suggested format for submissions is a short scripture passage, 300-500 word reflection, and short prayer. A suggested schedule of scriptures can be found here. Writers do have freedom and flexibility around format and scripture selection. Images or music may be used, but must be original, within the public domain, or have written permission from the artist.
Please email erin.jones@elca.org with any inquiries or submissions. Submissions are due by Aug. 30.
I would love to write a devotional!
Excellent, Pastor Lang! Erin will send you an email to follow-up!
