The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is seeking applicants for the Migration Policy Program Director. This position is located in the Advocacy Office of the ELCA located in Washington DC and serves the church as a member of the Domestic Mission Unit. The Domestic Mission Unit mission is to foster and facilitate the work of synods, congregations, and partners in making congregations vital centers for mission and in creating coalitions and networks to promote justice and peace. Its work includes creating and revitalizing congregations; leadership development; enhancing discipleship; supporting multicultural ministries and the commitment of this church to inclusivity; fostering relationships with educational partners; facilitating the engagement of this church in advocacy; and related activities that serve the evangelical mission of synods and congregations.
This position is responsible for the policy advocacy of the ELCA to the federal government on domestic immigration and global migration issues in U.S. foreign policy; for providing ELCA synods and congregations and members with issue-based resources; and for motivating ELCA membership for advocacy as a faith practice, connecting migration strategies and ministries with international policy priorities.
This position coordinates and leads with the AMMPARO Program Director within the ELCA AMMPARO Strategy and relates to broader ELCA migration work. It develops and strengthens the ELCA Advocacy and AMMPARO networks. It assists in developing greater capacity with our partners in the Northern Triangle and in Latin America for better governance and addressing the root causes of migration.
